Why Edmodo?
An Edmodo Testimonial
One of my current professional goals is to increase both the quality and frequency of the feedback that I am providing my students with. In pursuit of technology that could help me in achieving this goal, I spent a considerable amount of time reviewing online options. When I began to investigate Edmodo, I quickly realized that it had the potential to be a learning tool that would help me create a safe and interactive online learning space for my students and I.
I have been using Edmodo on a daily basis with my students for just over three months now. I think that it is an incredibly valuable resource for both students and teachers. Based on my experiences thus far, I really do feel like it provides me with a digital extension of the classroom and it has taken our learning to new heights. For a more complete look at how my students and I feel about Edmodo, please view the video below.

My students have a wide variety of skill levels in regard to their ability to navigate effectively out on the Internet. Providing students with URLs and then waiting for all of the students to accurately type in the information and get to the desired online location can be a very time consuming task. One of my favourite things about Edmodo is the ease with which I can embed videos and links that the students can simply click on in order to get to the sites that I would like them to explore. For this reason, I often create lessons within Edmodo that are set up in a similar format to a ‘web quest.’ Often after we have covered a concept in class, I will post a variety of links that will provide the students with the opportunity to review the concepts or dive more deeply into them based on their own personal areas of interest. I usually incorporate an assignment, quiz or discussion prompt at the end of the task to make the students accountable for the activity. I have provided examples of both a Science and a Math lesson that I have designed and delivered within Edmodo. These examples can be found under the Communities of Practice Tab.
